Eight hurt as students clash in Desh Bandhu College over DUSU candidate

New Delhi: Eight students of Desh Bandhu College of Delhi University received injuries after a clash erupted between two groups of students belonging to Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) on Thursday morning.

Delhi Police on Thursday said that the two factions also smashed six cars in the clash.

The incident was reported outside the college situated in the Kalakaji police station area in south east Delhi.

Keeping in mind the upcoming Delhi University Students' Union election, Delhi Police has deployed several personnel in and around the North Campus to avoid any untoward incidents and maintain law and order.

Both the groups attacked one another after a dispute over the ABVP candidate from the college, scheduled for September 12.

The students used sticks and pelted stones at each other resulting in injuries to eight students from both the groups, the police said. Some also smashed vehicles and broke the windshield and windows of cars belonging members of both groups.

DCP (South East) Chinmoy Biswal said, "We are yet to receive complaints from the affected parties. The police will take action in the matter as per the complaint."
