DUSU proposal to set up sanitary napkin vending machines in colleges gets nod

New Delhi: The Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) has been given approval by the University authorities to set up 32 medium sanitary napkin machines in as many DU colleges. Each of these machines can store up to 25 napkins and can be accessed by all students.

In a letter signed by the assistant registrar (estate) of the University, DUSU vice-president Kunal Sehrawat has been given permission to set up sanitary napkin machines at North Campus' WUS Health Centre and the utility centre.

Sehrawat said that he had approached the university for permission to place machines in colleges as many female students will benefit from the initiative.

"They can easily access to sanitary pads which should necessarily be available for them," he added.

He informed that along with the two centres, for which he had been granted permission, DUSU will also be placing small vending machines at 52 other colleges of the varsity.

"We have already acquired 32 machines. Eventually, we will cover all Delhi University colleges," he said.

Mahamedhaa Nagar, secretary, DUSU, stated, "Before starting the process of installation, I did a small survey. I approached the principals of various colleges and enquired about the features they expect in a sanitary napkin vending machine."

"Hindu College already had a vending machine, but the problem was the quality of sanitary napkins that the machine provided," she added

The principal of Lakshmibai College informed that they are getting everything digitalised, which means all transactions in the college will be digital.

Students will receive a digital card that will help them to make the payments online. She wants a machine to be incorporated into the same mechanism.

The machine has been designed accordingly, he further stated.
