Duo nabbed for killing friend who wanted his money back

New Delhi: Delhi Police on Wednesday said it arrested two men from north Delhi who were involved in killing a friend who had demanded the money he had lent to one of the accused.

Cops said that the two culprits had hatched a plan to dodge investigators, but the high security number plate (HSNP) on the victim's car and efforts of the investigators led to their arrest.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Nupur Prasad said the arrested accused have been identified as Manu Wadhawa and Nitin Chabra.

The deceased was identified as Pawan Bathla, who lived in north west Delhi's Mukherjee Nagar area.

Police claimed that Bathla had given a loan of more than Rs two lakh to one of the accused and wanted it back. "They (accused) hatched a murder plan and, on Tuesday, called Bathla for a meeting. Later, both criminals struck him with a rod and stabbed him with a sharp object then threw his body in Timarpur," police said.

Police further said they received a PCR call about the accident and on reaching the spot, found Pawan lying in a pool of blood.

He was rushed to a hospital where he died. Later, cops confirmed his identity.

Meanwhile, investigators later found a charred car in North West district at an isolated place. However, the car's HSNP was still intact, using which the vehicle's movement was tracked on the night of the murder.

Police further claimed that call data records analysis was and CCTV was scanned, which led to the clues of the culprits who were called for questioning.

During interrogation, they confessed to the crime. "After killing Pawan they took his vehicle and burnt thinking that no one will identify the car and it will be like an accident," police said.
