DU sports quota: Changes proposed at undergraduate level

The University of Delhi on Monday proposed some changes for the undergraduate admissions based on the category under sports quota.

The changes suggest that the varsity would scrap the qualifying fitness test and that the centralised sports trials will continue.

Also, there will be a discipline-specific fitness test of 10 per cent weightage.

The weightage of the sports trials in the final selection has also been increased.

These proposals for the academic session 2017-18 are yet to be cleared by the standing committee but are likely to be adopted in the final guidelines.

Earlier, the aspirants had to appear for three fitness tests, of which an aspirant had to clear two before appearing for the sports trials.

"Candidates will directly come for the sports trials. There will be a fitness test specific to that sport with 10 per cent weightage," said a member of the sports committee.

He further added, "Candidates will be selected based on their performance at the trials and the certificates."

Another change that is being proposed is an increase in the weightage for the trials.

The trials and certificates carried 50 per cent weightage each.

Now, 60 percent will be marked for the trials and 40 percent for the certificates.
