DTC bus flips over, nine injured

New Delhi: Panic gripped on Wednesday morning at Wazirabad T-point area when a Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus carrying passengers was hit by a truck driven by an errant driver who fled the spot after the incident. Police claimed that nine persons were injured in the incident. A case has been registered and further investigation is underway.

According to police, a PCR call at 6.15 am regarding accident under Wazirabad flyover was received. The team rushed to the spot and found that DTC bus DL1 PC 8780 of route number 447 was hit by the truck bearing Haryana number plate.

With the help of passersby and local persons, the injured were taken out from the bus and were rushed to the hospital. "Nine injured were shifted to Trauma centre. All were discharged after treatment," police said. The police investigation further revealed that the dumper truck came from Sonia Vihar side via river bridge. It was driven at high speed and hit the bus passing under the Wazirabad flyover from the back-front side. The accident took place at T-point. The impact of the hit was so powerful that the bus flips over and the passengers started crying. The accused meanwhile fled the spot.

On the statement of the driver of bus Ajit Singh, a case was registered under sections 279 ( Rash driving or riding on a public way) and 337 (Causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) of Indian Penal Code against the driver of the truck who fled away from the spot. After the accident, the traffic was also disrupted for some time but later the police officers made sure that commuters do not face much tough time and the road was cleared.
