Drug trafficker who engaged unemployed youth nabbed
New Delhi: As part of its efforts to crack down on drug traffickers in the district, South East Delhi Police said it arrested a 45-year-old resident of Taimoor Nagar and recovered 528 g of heroin on Saturday night.
Cops said the accused Farooq used to engage unemployed young men to work as his drugs peddlers. Most of them worked as watchmen in plain clothes and used to keep an eye on police movement in the area.
If any such movement is detected, they used to inform Farooq, who along with his vendors, would flee the spot.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (South East) Chinmoy Biswal on Sunday said that the police team gathered intelligence regarding supply of heroin in various parts of Delhi-NCR. Based on this, Farooq was arrested from Jaitpur on Saturday night.
It came to their notice that some dealers were also involved in the supply of heroin in these areas.
"During sustained interrogation, accused Farooq disclosed that he is a school drop-out. His mother also used to peddle drugs and, in his early 20s, Farooq also got involved in drug-peddling. His mother used to support him in peddling the narcotics," said Biswal.
Farooq was previously involved in four criminal cases, including one under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, and had served a prison sentence of five years in a robbery case.
Explaining his modus operandi, cops said that Farooq used to purchase heroin at Rs 12 lakh per kg from suppliers based in Bareilly and Hapur.
He used to prepare small packets containing one gram of heroin, sell them at Rs 150 each and earn profits of near Rs 3 lakh by selling 1 kg of heroin.
Cops added that Farooq mostly sold these packets to addicts in Delhi-NCR and even in parties.
The DCP added that Farooq used to pay Rs 300 per day to the unemployed young men who worked for him.
