Drones and iPhones seized

New Delhi: A man was arrested by the Customs department at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) for smuggling iPhone 11 pro units, memory cards, drones worth around Rs 26 lakh on Friday. According to Customs, the accused had arrived at T-3 terminal of IGIA from Hong Kong on November 15. He was intercepted by the officials as soon as he crossed the green channel.

Additional Commissioner of Customs, Amandeep Singh, said that during his personal and baggage search four drones with camera, Nine Apple iPhone 11 PRO (256 GB and 64 GB) and 10,000 pieces of non branded memory card of 4 GB each having market value more than 26 lakh rupees were recovered.

Singh further said that the accused also admitted his involvement in the smuggling of 10,000 memory card having the value of Rs 10 lakh in his previous visit. Sources said that these phones have been launched recently and are in huge demand in the grey market. "After purchasing at cheap rate there is a possibility that the accused wanted to earn profit by selling them in the market at high price," sources added. Further investigators are also probing if accused had disposed of the smuggled goods in the past.
