Driver held after he hid car in plain sight

After receiving the keys of the car of a brand new Mercedes, Narender (20) had to just drive the vehicle from the godown in Bijwasan to a showroom in Noida Sector-8. But instead of delivering the car with no scratches, he drove the vehicle in a rash manner thinking that he would make it on time.

In his spree, however, he mowed down a 50-year-old labourer and fled from the area. Sensing that the police would soon catch him, he thought of fleeing but did not know where to dump the car. So he hid it in plain sight in the very same showroom where the car was to be delivered and now, the car, responsible for mowing down the labourer was at display.

The staff of Silver Arrow automobile showroom, were in for a rude surprise when the police came knocking on their doors and after a brief inspection, they matched the car's registration number and identified the accused.

The staff of the showroom revealed that it was Narender, who was tasked with delivering the car to the showroom. "When the incident took place, we were able to identify the car from the temporary registration number. We knew that the car was brand new and that it must have been on display in a showroom. The registration number had pointed towards the fact that the owner was a UP resident so we targeted the showrooms in the area and managed to find the car on display," said a senior police official.

The staff at the showroom had not suspected anything amiss but the very next day, Narender's phone was switched off as he had fled to his native village in Dhansa village in Najafgarh area. "We sent in a team and managed to arrest the accused. He confessed to the hit-and-run accident but denied that he was under the influence of alcohol. His medical test was also done to verify his claims. So far, it appears to be a case of rash and negligent driving," the official added.

It is pertinent to point out that this was the second case of hit-and-run case involving a Mercedes car.
