Drive against rape: DCW chief seeks Maneka's help

New Delhi: DCW Chief Swati Maliwal Jai Hind met with Union WCD Minister Maneka Gandhi on Monday and sought support for Rape Roko campaign. DCW claimed that Maneka Gandhi assured support to the DCW initiative. Gandhi informed that she is in the process of setting up specialised forensic labs which shall exclusively deal with cases of sexual assault against women and children.
Rape Roko movement launched by Swati Jai Hind recently has been getting massive public support. DCW Chief lauded the step taken by the Union Minister and stated that long pendency in forensic labs often result in extensive delays in rape trials.
She further stated that Delhi Government Forensic Lab has informed the Commission that it has reduced its pendency to half. Also, they have informed that the reports for the new cases that come up are created within 2 months. "Setting up exclusive forensic labs to deal with sexual assault cases will help in faster rape trials. She said that systems need to be created to ensure that rape cases are tried within 6 months. Setting up exclusive forensic labs for sexual assault cases is a step in that direction," said DCW official.
