Gurugram: Dreaded gangster from Jharkhand Akhilesh Singh who had 56 cases of heinous crimes registered in against and had a prize money of Rs 7 lakh over him was held in Gurugram late Tuesday night.
It was not an easy task, however, for the crime branch of Gurugram police that had collaborated with the Jharkhand Police to capture the criminal who had escaped from Jamshedpur prison was on constant run.
There were several rounds of firing from both the sides before, 38-year-old Akhilesh was finally captured from a guest house in Sushant- Lok.
He was arrested along with a 25-year-old woman who he claimed to be his wife. He had sustained injuries on his legs after the exchange of fire and was admitted to civil hospital for treatment from where he will be taken into remand by Gurugram police for further questioning.
For firing at the law enforcement personnel, the district police have registered cases against him under sections of 353 (assault), 307 (attempt to murder), 186 (obstructing public servants in discharge of public functions) of the IPC and 25-54-59 of the illegal arms act.
It has still not been ascertained for what purpose he had come to Gurugram.
"During our course of interrogation we will know that what his real purpose of coming to Gurugram was. Was he here for carrying out a criminal act or was it just a transit route for him to escape to other destination," said Sandeep Khirwar, Gurugram police commissioner.
Having started committing criminal crimes from the abduction of a businessman in Jamshedpur in 2001, Singh's activities only became daring with each year. He was involved in the murder of Jharkhand Muki Morch leader Bhupender Singh. He also brutally killed Amit Rai after he felt that he was a police informer.
