NEW DELHI: Citing humanitarian reasons, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday asked all land owning agencies in Delhi not to demolish any jhuggis (slums) till winter ends.
The direction came during a meeting over the Slum Policy, with several stakeholder agencies, wherein he said, "Please do not demolish jhuggis till winters are over, say around February 28, 2018. It is very cold. Take a humanitarian approach."
Kejriwal also asked agencies to follow the protocol set for demolition in letter and spirit.
"No demolition should be done in future also, without proper rehabilitation or relocation of the slum dwellers. DUSIB (Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board) will lay down the norms for demolition according the notified Slum Policy and it will be applicable for all of Delhi and agencies," he added.
