Doctors suggest CPR guidelines
New Delhi: In a bid to create more awareness and enhance the measures, prominent doctors have come up with specific guidelines to rescue people who suffer cardiac arrest. The Indian Association of Anaesthesiologists (ISA) comprising of doctors from AIIMS and other prestigious hospitals across India have suggested Compression-only Life Support (COLS) for cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to save the life of people who suffer cardiac arrest and is isolated from the medical facilities.
According to the experts, "The guideline clearly prescribes the procedures to be followed before the patient is rushed to a hospital. They said, in most of the cases, chest-compression can save the life. "Chances of survival of patients gets doubled or tripled by using such procedures during the golden minutes," said Dr Rakesh Garg, associate professor of anesthesiology, intensive care and palliative medicine at AIIMS. He also said that they will disburse the certificates for the training session so that people would rely on them for urgent needs.
These guidelines were published in Journal of Indian Journal of Anaesthesia. "The compression-only CPR is simple and can be easily performed by any untrained layman. Till date only international guidelines were accepted in India but now, ISA along with the AIIMS experts have developed the first Indian CPR guidelines for common people."
