Director of reality firm held for defrauding hundreds of people

Noida: The Noida police on late Monday night arrested the director of a private builder's firm in Noida for allegedly cheating buyers on pretext of providing them flats/shops at builder's project which were never delivered, said police.

According to police, the accused identified as Amit Somal, director of Premia Project lived in Delhi's Dwarka area. He was wanted and went absconding since 2017 after multiple complaints of cheating from buyers were registered against him.

"Many cases of fraud and cheating have been registered against the accused in various police stations across the district, out of which three cases have been registered in sector 20 police station alone. The accused swindled money from home buyers in exchange of shops and flats in sector 62 and Noida Extension but never delivered," said Ashok Kumar Singh, superintendent of police (crime), Noida.

Police officials said that a team of crime branch and sector 20 police station of Noida acted upon the complaints and arrested the accused on Monday evening.

"Acting on a tip-off, we have arrested the accused director of the reality firm from atta chowk and have booked him under IPC sections 420 (cheating) and 406 (criminal breach of trust). He was produced before a magistrate and later sent to jail," said Manoj Kumar Pant, station house officer, sector 20 police station.

The officer further said that the reality group has defrauded over hundreds of people of nearly Rs 100 crore but they are investigating to determine the exact amount. Police are also looking into the bank accounts of the accused.
