Diesel tank blast kills 1, hurt 3 in Govindpuri

New Delhi: A man died and two others were injured after a blast reported from a diesel tank during welding in South-East Delhi's Govindpuri area on Thursday. Police have registered a case of negligence and started their investigation.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South East) Chinmoy Biswal said that they received a PCR call at 12.15 pm in police station Govindpuri regarding a fire in the tank and one person is burnt.

"On receiving the PCR call SHO Govindpuri along with staff reached the spot and found four persons injured," said DCP South-East Delhi adding that all the injured were removed to hospital.

Police further stated that one of the injured identified as Sumit a resident of Dakshin Puri was declared brought dead by the doctor in the hospital.

The investigation in the case revealed that the deceased was a welder and was welding the diesel tank of a truck and while welding, the tank exploded and there was the fire in which the deceased was burnt and later died. The tank was not attached to any truck.

Police identified the victim as Mohd Nurain Khan alias Mama, Nizamuddin and Vakil. They were near the spot when the incident took place. The explosion was such that no one gets time to react. Police said that two injured Mohammad Nurain Khan and Nizamuddin were the passerby who were standing near the shop and they tried to save the victims. Both the persons received minor burn injuries and received treatment in local hospital at Govindpuri. Shakil was running the shop. He is in ICU at Safdarjung Hospital.

A case under section 304 A (Causing death by negligence) and 285 (Negligent conduct with respect to fire or combustible matter) of Indian Penal Code is being registered at Govindpuri police station.

"The case is being investigated and many persons were questioned in this regard," police said.
