Despite threat to their lives, kin of police team proud of their work

New Delhi: "When I reached the hospital, I had mixed feelings. I was proud, but another part of me wanted my father to be safe," said Ashish Deshwal, son of injured Special Cell personnel Brijendra Singh, when asked to describe his feelings after news of the encounter broke out on Saturday.

Like Deshwal, other relatives of the brave Special Cell personnel were at the AIIMS Trauma Centre on Sunday. They were proud of the work that their near and dear ones had done for Delhi's safety.

Talking to Millennium Post, Deshwal said for the last two days, before the incident, his father was continuously working and had not slept.

"My father told me to be proud of his duty towards the nation," said the son.

Deshwal said that during the encounter, Brijendra had told the accused to surrender, but they started firing.

"My father was injured when he tried to save another policeman, who has three-month-old daughter," he added.

Family members of the brave policeman came to know about the news after the encounter was over and the victims were shifted to hospital

Akshay Chauhan, son of another of the injured policemen Sub-Inspector Raj Singh, said he too was proud of his father for fulfilling his duty towards his nation.

"My father was shot in the hand, but he still drove the car, carrying other policemen to a safe place," said Akshay.

Akshay stated that he came to know that when the police team had surrounded the accused and told them to surrender, the accused began firing

The daughter of another injured sub-inspector is a doctor. When he was rushed to the hospital on Saturday noon, with two gunshots, his daughter received him and assisted the medical team in treatment.
