Delhi violence: Crime Branch reaches out to people to gather video footages

New Delhi: The crime branch of Delhi Police is trying to reach out to the people who have shot videos of north-east violence that claimed lives of over 50 people and left more than 300 injured.

Police sources said that they have received forwarded videos in this regard. Police sources said that they have interacted with the residents in the violence-hit areas. "They told us about the violence but they do not remember the faces of rioters," sources said. According to the sources, they are trying to reach out to the people who have shot videos of violence in north-east Delhi. In one of the cases, the crime branch was able to identify the person who shot the video.

The crime branch had gathered hundreds of video footages including mobile phone made clips which are circulating on social media and WhatsApp groups. Delhi Police has also issued an appeal, urging people and media persons to come forward and give their statements and share pictures and video footages in connection with the violence in north-east Delhi.

With several people from riot-hit areas such as Jafrabad, Maujpur, Babarpur, Yamuna Vihar, Bhajanpura, Chand Bagh, Kardampuri and Shiv Vihar alleging the role of "outsiders" in the riots, two Special Investigation Teams (SITs) of the Delhi Police's Crime Branch have been formed to probe the violence.

The investigators are also gathering mobile call and data records to identify those involved in the violence and whether they were locals or outsiders. Meanwhile, more than 650 FIRs have been registered in the violence which includes over 30 murder cases. Data revealed that from February 22 to March 5, three cases of dacoity with riot were registered in Bhajanpura police station whereas six cases of murder and 33 cases of riot with murder, two attempts to murder, 613 rioting, two cases under 304 and 326 IPC were registered.
