Delhi to split eOffice into three platforms for depts, PSUs, academia to improve efficiency
New Delhi: In a move aimed at streamlining digital governance, the Delhi government has decided to divide its existing eOffice system into three distinct platforms catering separately to government departments, public sector undertakings (PSUs), and academic institutions. The decision follows an official advisory issued recently.
At present, the eOffice system, developed by the National Informatics Centre (NIC), functions as a unified digital workspace for all entities under the Government of NCT of Delhi (GNCTD).
Officials said the restructuring is designed to improve efficiency, reduce system load, and strengthen data management across different categories of users.
As part of the transition, two new dedicated platforms will be introduced. One will cater to PSUs, autonomous bodies, and local institutions, while another will be exclusively designed for universities and academic organisations. The current platform will continue to support core government departments.
According to officials, each of these platforms will function independently, with separate digital infrastructure, allowing better scalability and smoother operations. The move is also expected to enhance cybersecurity by isolating data environments and reducing vulnerabilities associated with a single, shared system.
The Department of Information Technology (DIT) has been tasked with executing the technical aspects of the transition, including splitting the system and ensuring secure migration of existing records to the respective platforms. Officials noted that this step would significantly ease congestion on the system, which has grown with increasing usage across sectors.
However, users may face temporary disruptions during the migration phase. The advisory has asked all departments, PSUs, and academic institutions to complete urgent tasks before 6:00 pm on April 10, as eOffice services will be briefly suspended.
The government has outlined a phased restoration plan. Services on the primary platform for government departments will resume on April 13.
The PSU and local bodies platform will go live on April 15, followed by the academic platform on April 17; officials expect faster processing, smoother workflows and stronger digital governance.
