Delhi to open 10-bed TB centre
New Delhi: In a significant step to strengthen tuberculosis care, the Delhi government has announced the development of a District TB Centre and Chest Clinic at the Rural Health Training Centre (RHTC) in Najafgarh, aimed at improving access to diagnosis and treatment in South West Delhi.
The upcoming facility, to be developed under the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme (NTEP), will include a 10-bed indoor patient department (IPD) catering to both drug-sensitive and drug-resistant TB patients. Officials said the centre will provide integrated services, including specialist consultations and advanced diagnostics, under one roof.
Health Minister Dr. Pankaj Kumar Singh said, “The Delhi Government is strengthening last-mile healthcare by developing a dedicated TB Centre at Najafgarh, ensuring timely diagnosis, quality treatment, and better outcomes for patients across South West Delhi.”
Najafgarh serves a large rural population of around 3–4 lakh residents, including nearby areas such as Nangli, Sakrawati and Dharampura. Currently, many patients travel to RTRM Hospital in Jaffarpur for treatment. The new centre is expected to reduce this burden by offering services closer to home.
Highlighting the broader vision, Singh said, “By integrating advanced diagnostic support, dedicated indoor beds, and specialist care under one roof, we are ensuring that no patient is left behind due to distance or lack of resources.”
The announcement comes alongside intensified efforts under the TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan 2.0. In a 15-day campaign from March 24 to April 9, the government conducted 432 screening camps, covering over 38,800 individuals. During this period, 3,760 TB cases were identified through extensive testing, including X-rays and NAAT tests.
Officials added that the new centre will utilise CBNAAT and TrueNat technologies for rapid detection, including drug-resistant TB, strengthening the continuum of care.
The initiative reflects the government’s push to expand accessible and quality healthcare while accelerating progress towards a TB-free Delhi.
