Delhi Police probe circulation of ‘unauthorised’ FSSAI documents

New Delhi: The Delhi Police have registered a case following a complaint by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) over the alleged circulation of unauthorised and purported official documents on social media.
According to police, the complaint was received on March 12 at I.P. Estate police station from an authorised FSSAI representative. It alleged that certain social media influencers and unidentified individuals were sharing the documents online, possibly to create distrust and harm the organisation’s reputation.
Police sources said the circulated material resembled official FSSAI communication. However, the authority expressed concern that the documents may have been accessed without authorisation and potentially tampered with before being shared. The complaint also flagged the
possibility of insider involvement in obtaining and disseminating the material.
An FIR has been registered under Section 316 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 72 of the Information Technology Act, which pertain to unauthorised access, misuse of information and breach of confidentiality.
Investigators have begun examining the authenticity of the documents and the role of individuals involved in posting and spreading them. Digital evidence is being preserved, and notices have been issued to social media platforms, including X, seeking details of accounts linked to the posts.
Officials said the probe is at an early stage and is looking into multiple aspects, including possible unauthorised access to official records and the intent behind the circulation. Further action will follow based on the findings.
