Delhi Police arrested carjacker
New Delhi: The Special Staff of South West District arrested a 27-year-old carjacker Rahul (aka Monu) from Mahipalpur Bus Stand on Friday.
The police acted on intelligence received in confidence about the accused's arrival for a meeting with one of his associates at the Bus Stand. On the signal from their confidential informant, the police identified and nabbed Rahul following a short chase.
The team led by Inspector Dinesh Kumar (Special Staff) under the supervision of ACP (Operations), Satish Kumar, retrieved one country-made pistol with a live round inside after cursory frisking.
During detailed interrogation, it was revealed that the accused was actually fleeing from judicial custody after being granted bail in 2015. After having remained underground for three years, he decided to steal vehicles in order to sell them and procure means to threaten witnesses to his previous crimes. DCP (SWD) Devender Arya said that the police later also seized three cars from locations disclosed during questioning.
One of his associates, Manjit (aka Chotiwala) was arrested by Gurugram Police on February 27, 2019. A case of U/S 25/54/59 Arms Act has been registered against Rahul at the Vasant Kunj North Police Station. Two other associates of the main accused still remain at large. Police said further investigations are ongoing.
