New Delhi: Delhi Police have been allocated Rs 7,426.98 crore for the next fiscal, an increase comparing the budget of 2017-18. City Police have also got Rs 19.75 crore for Nirbhaya Fund, which was Rs 28.90 crore in 2017-18.
A senior police officer said that the budget allocated to Nirbhaya fund last year also included money that was to be spent on infrastructure.
According to sources, the city police have got 7,426.98 crores for 2018-19 whereas in 2017-18 it was Rs 6,378.18 and for 2016-17, the allocation was around Rs 5,913.74 crore. Of the total amount allotted in the 2018-19 budgets, Rs 460.95 crore has been granted for police infrastructure, a marginal increase from last year's Rs 439 crore.
The Budget estimate has put non-plan expenditure at Rs 6,946.28 crore, a substantial jump over the current fiscal estimate of Rs 5,910.28 crore. The non-plan expenditure comprises routine expenses as well as the amount to be spent on various schemes to be implemented by Delhi Police. These include schemes such as developing traffic and communication network in the capital, upgradation or expansion of communication infrastructure, upgradation of training, induction of latest technology.
Meanwhile, DCW chief Swati Jai Hind stated that she was very disappointed with the Union Budget 2018. The Finance Minister hardly mentioned women and children in his speech. "Despite the country witnessing increasing child sexual abuse, it deeply pains me to note that no measures have been announced to enhance the safety of women and children," said DCW chief.
