Delhi not responsible for cutting trees at Mathura Road: Jain
NEW DELHI: The issue of cutting trees for the redevelopment of seven south Delhi colonies triggered a blame game that is on for over a week. Delhi Public Works Department outrightly rejected the cutting of trees along the Mathura road for an ongoing integrated transit corridor project in and around the Pragati Maidan. PWD Minister Satyendra Kumar Jain said that the Integrated Transit Corridor Development Project is the Centre's flagship project, for which the foundation was laid by the Vice-President of India, M Venkaiah Naidu, on December 21, 2017. On this occasion, Delhi government minister was not invited. Now, how could they blame the Delhi government for cutting the trees? The Delhi government's Public Works Department (PWD) is developing the integrated transit corridor along Delhi-Mathura road and Purana Qila road, alongside the National Sports Club of India ( NSCI) boundary wall. The PWD is working as an agency for Larsen Toubro Company Limited. The Project is estimated to cost Rs 710.35 crore and scheduled for completion in 22 months.
According to the wildlife and forest department officials, about 28 big trees have been cut for the above-mentioned projects.
