Delhi Metro Police to get reinforcements

New Delhi: Delhi Metro Police will soon get reinforcements to tackle crime in Metro more efficiently. Police claimed that the timings of the personnel stationed at the booths will also be increased after the manpower increases.
According to police, around 100 additional personnel will soon join Metro Police, helping law enforcement agencies tackle crime in the Metro jurisdiction.
"Earlier, police had 250 staffs. After joining, it will be around 350," said a senior police official.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Metro) Pankaj Singh on Wednesday confirmed the news, adding that addition of new personnel will led to increasing of timings of police booths situated in Metro premises.
"Earlier, personnel used to remain till 5 pm. But after arrival of new personnel, we will increase till 11 pm," said Singh.
Delhi Police had more than 20 police booths and two of them run 24 hours.
Delhi Police data, accessed by Millennium Post, states that more than 1,400 cases have been registered with Delhi Metro from January 1 to March 27.
In 2017, in the same period, more than 4,000 cases were filed.
"We are working hard to provide a crime-free environment in Metro and crime rate has decreased," said the DCP.
In more than 1,000 Metro crime cases, e-FIR were registered, whereas 84 cases were registered at the concerned police stations this year.
Police further claimed that 108 accused were arrested this year for different types of crime and more than eight gangs were busted.
In February, cops busted a gang of female thieves in Shadipur. Police claimed to have recovered jewellery worth Rs 15 lakh from them.
Delhi Police have written a letter to Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) for installation of face recognition system in Delhi Metro, to facilitate easy detection of criminals who have been involved in the crime in Metro.
