Delhi Metro inaugurates E-rickshaw services

New Delhi: The Delhi Metro on Friday launched the E-rickshaw service for its stations in Dwarka to provide last mile connectivity to the commuters. There will be 100 e-rickshaws, called SmartEs, in the initial phase which will be stretched to 200 in coming weeks, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said in a statement. This is for the first time that the e-rickshaw facility has been rolled out for Metro stations in the Delhi region covering Dwarka sub-city. Besides, a charging station for 100 SmartEs have also been set up to ensure seamless service throughout the day, a DMRC official said.

Keeping the safety of the commuters into account, these GPS enabled SmartEs are specially designed having covered cabins with full windscreens and will provide connectivity within a radius of 3-4 KM around the metro stations. The fares have been kept very nominal at a base price of Rs 10 for the first 2 kilometers and Rs 5 for every subsequent kilometer. The commuters can also book vehicles through the SmartE app and pay digitally for their rides, the DMRC statement said. The statement further said that on the successful implementation of the E-Rickshaw services in Dwarka, DMRC will look to replicate services on the similar format in other areas of Delhi/NCR.
