Delhi Mahila Cong celebrates its 35th Foundation Day

NEW DELHI: Delhi Mahila Congress celebrated its 36th Foundation Day at the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee office, Rajiv Bhawan, on Sunday. On the occasion, Delhi Pradesh Mahila Congress (DPMC) organized a flag-hoisting programme at the DPCC office, under the leadership of DPMC president Sharmistha Mukherjee. The flag hoisting was done by Mukherjee, along with DPCC Working Presidents Rajesh Lilothia and Devender Yadav.

Mukherjee said that the All India Mahila Congress started functioning as an independent Frontal Organization within the AICC with the approval of the President, AICC from 15th September, 1983. She said that the Mahila Congress started off as an outreach frontal organization of the Indian National Congress and was involved mainly in social work.

She said that the Congress party, right from its inception, has worked tirelessly for the better condition of women in India. Mukherjee said that the Congress party, time and again, reviewed the condition of women in India and made suitable policies and rules for the betterment of women, like the Dowry Prohibition Act (1961), the Maternity Benefit Act 1961, the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention and Protection Act 2013) etc.
