Delhi govt launches bus routes for school children from outer areas

New Delhi: In a significant move to improve public transport accessibility, the Delhi government launched a new dedicated bus route for school children and introduced enhanced services on existing routes. Transport minister Kailash Gahlot flagged off two important bus routes, 892 STL and 892 SPL, on Sunday, marking a key step toward making commuting more efficient, particularly for residents of under-served and outer Delhi areas.
The flag-off ceremony, held at Dhoolsiras Village in the Bijwasan constituency, was attended by Gahlot along with local MLA Bhupinder Singh Joon. Route 892 SPL was specifically designed to serve school children, connecting Dhoolsiras Village to Chhawla School, while Route 892 STL caters to commuters between Nanak Heri and Dwarka Sector-10. The newly launched services are part of a broader initiative to enhance public transport options in Delhi.
Speaking at the event, Kailash Gahlot highlighted the importance of these new routes. “By introducing new routes 892 STL and 892 SPL, and increasing bus frequency on route 716, we are working to make public transport more accessible for everyone, especially for residents in villages and outer Delhi areas,” he said. “The launch of bus route 892 SPL is aimed at helping school-going students and daily commuters in underserved areas by offering clean, efficient, and eco-friendly travel options. Our goal is to ensure a smoother, more reliable commute for all, connecting communities and making daily travel easier for Delhiites.”
Route 892 SPL will operate with air-conditioned CNG buses and will run two trips in the morning and two in the afternoon, covering key stops such as Dhoolsiras Village, Bamnoli, BSF Camp Chhawla, and Chhawla Village. This service will help students from surrounding areas travel to school with greater convenience. Gahlot emphasized that this initiative was a first step, with plans to expand similar services across the city in the future.
The 892 STL route, which spans 19 km, will provide connectivity between villages like Nanak Heri, Kanganheri, and Chhawla, terminating at Dwarka Sector-10. This route will also be served by AC CNG buses, ensuring both comfort and environmental sustainability. “This route is designed to serve the nearby villages and colonies, providing key access points like Dwarka Sector-21, Dwarka Metro Station, and Dwarka District Court Complex,” Gahlot added. In addition to the new routes, the frequency on Route 716, which runs from Shivaji Stadium to Dhoolsiras, has been increased. Two additional AC CNG buses have been added, doubling the daily trips from 8 to 16, to cater to growing demand. This route connects major landmarks like Lady Hardinge Hospital, RML Hospital, and Indira Gandhi Hospital in Dwarka, offering commuters a more frequent and reliable travel option.
