Delhi govt forms panel to suggest measures to augment excise duty revenue, boost hotel industry
new delhi: Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Wednesday constituted a committee under the chairmanship of Excise Commissioner to suggest measures for augmenting the state excise duty revenue. The Committee will suggest measures for simplifying the liquor pricing mechanism and checking malpractices and evasion of duty in the liquor trade.
The committee will also look into changes in excise duty structure that will aid in ease of doing business for the restaurant and hospitality industry. The committee will also give suggestions on ensuring equitable access to liquor supply.
The committee will study and make suggestions to improve the business of state excise duty so that more jobs can be generated.
The committee will also include Deputy Commissioner (Excise) Sandeep Mishra and Additional Commissioner (T&T) Anand Kumar Tiwari as members. The committee will submit its report to Deputy CM within the next 15 days.
The hotel and hospitality industry produces about 8 percent of the jobs in Delhi. The situation has not only affected the employment but also reduced the revenue of the Delhi government.
