New Delhi: South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) on Thursday said that the Delhi government has been unnecessarily delaying the notification on 351 roads into commercial and mixed use, even after a resolution passed by the three municipal corporations last week was sent to the city government.
Earlier, the unified MCD had conducted survey to this effect and a notification was issued by the erstwhile Ministry of Urban Development on September 7, 2006, to notify the streets after the survey undertaken by the local body to access the extent of commercialisation i.e. non-residential activities in residential premises.
SDMC Mayor Kamaljeet Sehrawat said that mixed use allows access to commercial activities in residential premises and reduces the need for commuting across zones in the city.
"Accordingly, local bodies conducted the surveys and identified 2,183 roads and the same were forwarded to Delhi government through the resolution of the Corporation for notification.
"On the basis of Corporation resolution, the Delhi government issued the notification of 2183 roads on September 15, 2006 without imposing any condition," Sehrawat said.
She added that the Master Plan of Delhi-2021 came into force with effect from February 2, 2007, in which it was deliberated that the local body shall be required to carry out survey of the areas that have not been surveyed within 90 days.
As per the said provisions, 355 roads were surveyed and identified and the same were forwarded to the Delhi government through the resolution of Corporation for notification. On April 12, 2007, the city government issued the notification of 355 roads, without imposing any condition.
