Delhi government disburses over Rs 13 crore to 1,215 riot-hit people
New Delhi: The Delhi Government in a Cabinet meeting had agreed to provide compensation to victims of riot-affected areas of north-east Delhi.
Till March 17, the Aam Aadmi Party-led government has given over Rs 13 crore to 1,215 people who lost their livelihood, homes, family members or were severely injured. According to the data released by government officials, a sum of over Rs 13 crore has been given out to the people as compensation so far. This compensation includes household damages, loss of life in the riot, injury, theft and vandalism.
The government has received nine forms for houses that have been completely damaged and all of which have received full compensation. Under the housing category, 214 forms were submitted for substantial damages of which 203 have been fully compensated. There are 11 pending forms that are yet to be addressed, of which nine are dispute cases, one without an FIR and one is under the process. There are 221 forms for houses with minor damages of which 163 have received full compensation. The remaining 58 forms include 50 cases of looting without an FIR, two untraceable, and one is under dispute and the remaining five do not have adequate bank details.
An official working with the government said: "The compensation for the remaining houses which includes – substantial and minor damages – will be provided soon." The compensation does not include the RS 1 crore promised to the IB officer, Ankit Lal's family. The Delhi government has given out Rs 13,51,51,590 only to civilians. Under the category of shops that were damaged in the targeted violence in north-east Delhi, 767 forms have
been submitted of which 598 have received full compensation.
The remaining 169 forms include 92 cases where FIR is pending, 15 are under dispute, 48 have inadequate bank details, eight are outstation cases and six forms have been rejected. 42 forms have been submitted under the death in a family in the riots of which 40 have received full compensation and two have received a partial amount. Severe injury forms are 29 and all of which have received the full amount. Similarly, forms for minor injuries are 144 and all have been fully compensated. Out of the eight forms received for damages in jhuggies, all of them have been completely compensated. Four e-rickshaws, two scooty, and 15 animal loss had been reported for damages and all of them have received full compensation. "Only in cases of loot and theft we require a copy of the FIR as it comes under Delhi police. In other cases of injury, the SDM takes a decision on the spot and there is no requirement of an FIR," the official added.
Several instances of theft and vandalism of commercial establishments with no insurance had also been brought to notice, which does not include fire or severe damage to the property.
The AAP-led Government has provided a compensation of Rs 1 lakh for cases of complete theft or looting or vandalism of residential units, and Rs 50,000 for partial looting and theft. It was also decided to include "looting or theft" in the category of damage to uninsured commercial property or loss of articles. However, in such cases, the furnishing of a copy of FIR has been made mandatory.
