Delhi getting adequate amount of water daily, says Delhi Jal Board
NEW DELHI: The Delhi Jal Board on Tuesday said that there is no massive water crisis across the national Capital, asserting that Delhi is receiving 900 MGD (million gallons per day) of water supply without any hindrance.
An official of the Board added that some parties are making the issue political, adding that the Board is supplying water by tankers in unauthorised colonies.
Meanwhile, the Delhi government has set up 110 water outlets, called 'e-Piyau', at various locations across the city.
"For the first time in Delhi, summer action plan was made with four rounds of consultation with 70 MLAs from across Delhi. A consultive and detailed infrastructure plan was created to solve the problems faced by water deficient areas in 40 constituencies and vulnerable areas for water in 55 constituencies," said DJB.
The Board has deputed over 1,000 tankers to supply water as per requirement in the city.
The Board official also said 25,000 fixed supply points have been identified for deployment of water tankers.
"These have been reduced from the earlier 40,000, due to extension of piped water supply network in unauthorised colonies. During peak season, about 6,400 trips per day are being targeted to supplement demand in water-deficient areas as well as those which do not have piped water supply," he added.
DJB, however, admitted that some complaints have been received from Sangam Vihar, Mehrauli and Muniraka villages, where some anti-social elements are creating troubles in water distribution.
The Board is supplying the same quantity of water that were being supplied last year.
Presently, Delhi is getting ample quantity of water from different sources, including 683 cusec per day from Munak canal, 230 from Kachi Canal, 120 from Yamuna and 770 from upper Ganga canal.
"The government is making all efforts to make available potable water for summer. But we request people to use water judiciously, as its conservation is essential," the official said.
