Delhi economy booms, per capita income rises

Delhi's economy grew at 8.34 per cent in 2015-16, with the per capita income rising to three times the national level, Lt Governor Anil Baijal said on Monday.

Addressing the Delhi assembly at the start of the budget session, Baijal said Delhi's per capita income in fiscal 2015-16 as per advance estimates of Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) was Rs 280,142, compared to Rs 93,293 at the national level.

Delhi's per capita income "is three times higher than the per capita income at national level", he said.

Baijal added that the rate of growth of Delhi's economy in 2015-16 was also significantly higher than the national level.

"Delhi's economy grew at 8.34 per cent during 2015-16 as compared to 7.6 per cent growth at the national level.

"Delhi's contribution to the national GDP (Gross Domestic Product) is about 4.12 per cent, while the share of Delhi in the total population of the country is 1.43 per cent," he said.

Delhi's economy has a predominance of service sector with a share of 82.3 per cent of GSDP, followed by industry (15.5 per cent) and agriculture (2.2 per cent).
