Angry parents, students volunteers bicker with officials at Daulat Ram College

Angry parents were on Wednesday seen arguing with officials at Daulat Ram College, after several students failed to get admission despite repeated attempts in the past few days.

The parents complained that were forced out of the campus, while the college's main entry gate was bolted from the inside, with only candidates being allowed for payment of fee and verification.

"We have been waiting in the campus since morning, but when the admission timing started the proctor pushed all parents out of the campus" said one of the irked parents.

"We have been waiting since 6 am to complete the admission procedure. We were told to come on Wednesday to pay the admission challan, but it's already past noon," said Pritam, one of the applicants at the College who was forced to wait for several hours.

"Some students came to our volunteers and complained that the college administration refused to give them admission in the last moment saying that seats were full, even though their documents were verified," said an Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) volunteer at the College.

After this, some ABVP activists reportedly barged into the campus along with some parents and indulged in some vandalism. The matter was later settled by the Proctor, the admission committee members and police.

Another applicant, Kajal Rani, alleged that the faculty was uncooperative. While submitting her form, she was not informed about deduction of 3 percentage points for changing her stream. "When I asked them about other BA (Hons) courses, they made fun of me saying you can either take Sanskrit or music," said Rani.

In the end, the administration agreed to enrol those students who had already filled the application form.

Witnesses said that after seeing a notice of no admission, a student fell unconscious, who was taken to the hospital.

Senior Delhi University officials said that if a student's marks crossed a college's cutoff, admission will be given.

However, admission counsellor Preeti Kapoor said that only those who filled the application form on Tuesday will be admitted. Delhi University Students' Union President Amit Tanwar opposed the condition, saying that the students who have cleared the college's cut-off must be given admissions.
