Quacks to borewells, Ggn officials on overdrive

The people who operate unlawfully across various fields in Gurugram were kept on edge the entire day on Tuesday as officers of Chief Minister flying squad along with the police conducted raids in various areas.

Beginning from taking action against mining in Aravallis to operating of illegal borewells, the officers ended their day by registering cases against quacks operating in the old areas of the city. In addition, a betting racket at Khandsa Market was busted during the raiding process.

The massive operation that began on Monday night came to an end on Tuesday evening. Not only in Gurugram but the raids were also conducted in other 19 cities of Haryana that included Yamuna Nagar, Ambala and Faridabad.

In Gurugram, the main target of the officials was to check on illegal bore wells. The officers seized various illegal bore wells operating in areas of Nathupur, Daultabad and Shivaji Nagar. Action against illegal bore wells is seen to be a major move due to falling groundwater reserves in the Millennium City. Around 40 per cent of citizens is still dependent on the groundwater for water supply. Moreover, the scarcity in large parts of the city has resulted in the growth of tanker mafia where water is been sold to the resident at exorbitant rates. Many complain that they are forced to pay Rs.1500 to the private water tankers.

Most of these tankers are believed to be getting their water supply from the illegal bore wells which also supply water to the builders operating in Gurugram.

"Even though the administration has taken action against many of the illegal bore wells, there still exists 15,000 such wells functioning in the city," said sources. Not only illegal bore wells but doctors functioning without a proper medical degree and quacks were also raided. Over six quacks were arrested that were mainly
concentrated in the old Gurugram area.

The raids by the top officers were followed by the District Health Department that raided the maternity clinic after receiving complaints of illegal medical practices being followed by the doctors.

The surprise moves by the officers from the CM Flying squad comes months after the officer has raided and seized illegal buses that were operating in the city in April.
