Transport authority allows Baxis to operate from next week

The district transport authority of Gautam Buddh Nagar has reportedly allowed the bike taxis to operate in Noida by the next week.

After fulfilling certain conditions at the Regional transport office (RTO), the permit for registering a bike taxi will be given. The first phase of Bike taxi service will comprise of 30 such vehicles which will be operated by UBER.

Bike taxis are lighter on pocket and a faster mode of transportation for many people. The bike taxi or baxi service is intended to boost last-mile connectivity options as well.

Commuters in Noida will now be able to jump start their journey on baxi at dirt cheap prices. The tariffs fixed for these vehicles are very less as compared to cabs and autos.

Rachna Raghuvanshi, assistant divisional transport officer, Gautam Buddh Nagar region, said, "The registration procedure for bike taxi services has been started. The RTA has finally given the green signal for plying bike taxis. Notices have been issued to the district transport offices. On successful completion of the conditions and submitting the fees, vehicles will be permitted to drive on the roads. It is expected that within next one week, the first phase of baxis will be fully operational on the roads."

According to the transport officials, the fees, taxes, fare charges and the conditions for registering a bike taxi has been finalised. Rs 100 is fixed as the application fees, Rs 1,400 as vehicle's fitness fees and Rs 1,500 will be taken as permit fees by the RTA. Additional Rs 2,350 yearly will be taken as commercial tax against every vehicle.

A Baxi services isn't a new concept, cities like Bengaluru, Jaipur, Udaipur, Gurugram and Hyderabad have already adopted the Baxi system. In Gurugram alone, there are over 300 vehicles currently in operation. It was introduced to Gurugram in last year's Odd-Even that occurred in Delhi-NCR.
