Fresh spell of pre-monsoon rains and thundershowers started lashing Delhi-NCR the third consecutive day on Wednesday.
The Safdarjung weather station recorded a rainfall of 20.2 mm in the last 24 hours till 8.30 am Wednesday, while stations at Lodhi Road, Palam, Ridge and Ayanagar received 24.2 mm, 3.8 mm, 17.9 mm and 15.7 mm rains during the same period.
Though overnight showers lashed the Capital, the rains stopped in the morning and a clear sky was visible, too. However, around noon the sky got overcast and showers were reported from many parts of the city.
According to weathermen, both the Western Disturbance over Jammu and Kashmir and its induced cyclonic circulation over Northwest Rajasthan continue to persist. Both the systems have kept the east-west trough active, which is running from Punjab till eastern parts of the country across Delhi-NCR. This has increased the moisture levels significantly, which coupled with rising mercury led to development of clouds over the city. Delhi has been recording light to moderate showers for the last 2-3 days but it is on Wednesday that Delhiites will witness rains in afternoon hours. Till now, rains have been confined to late night or early morning hours.
Weathermen have reported that comfortable weather conditions will continue for another 24 hours, wherein in isolated light rains may appear over the city on Thursday also. But with the trough oscillating towards foothills of Himalayas, intensity of rains will reduce over the city.
