A 7-year-old girl was raped at Dundahera area in Gurugram on Sunday evening by a 20-year-old Kamal, an auto driver. The accused was arrested by the police on Monday evening.
Meanwhile, the minor rape survivor who was earlier receiving treatment at the city's government hospital has been shifted to Safdarjung hospital in Delhi where she is said to be in a stable condition. The family of the minor hail from Uttar Pradesh and her father works as a labourer.
According to the District Police, the accused was stalking the minor for few days and used to visit the house of the victim. Also, he used to give sweets to the victim and her brother and sister.
On Sunday, at around 6:30 pm, Kamal took the victim to a desolated spot in Dundahera where he raped her.
Immediately after the incident, a team of 20 Gurugram police personnel was sent to nab the culprit. On Monday evening, Kamal finally landed in the cop net. He has been booked under Section 4 of POSCO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act at the Udyog Vihar police station.
"The role of CCTV has played an important role in getting hold of Kamal. We were able to capture the images where the accused was seen with the victim before she was raped. Immediately after getting the footage, the investigation team in collaboration with the personnel of Udyog Vihar police station launched a combing operation and was successful in getting hold of Kamal who is a resident of Dundahera village and is also an alcohol addict ," said Sumit Kuhar DCP (Crime) Gurugram Police.
The incident has again raised the concern of the safety of children in the Millennium City. Earlier in 2017, several cases were reported where the minors of less than 5 years were raped, killed and dumped. In 2016 there were 106 cases of sexual crimes that were reported against infants.
"Our officials are working towards ensuring the safety of women in Gurugram.
However, there is also a greater need for the mindset of the society to change," said a senior Gurugram police official.
