Petroleum tanker overturns, two injured

A petroleum tanker overturned in South Delhi's Moolchand underpass on Tuesday at around 5 am, spilling nearly 3,000 litres of petrol on the road which left two injured.
The accident led to massive traffic jam on the Ring Road and surrounding areas in the wee hours of the day.

"The fire tenders immediately reached the spot in case the highly inflammable material catches fire. The driver of the container Rakesh and the helper Monu received minor injuries in the accident," said a senior police officer.

The 20,000-litre capacity truck overturned on the road had caused massive traffic snarls on the busy ring road near Moolchand.

The police had sealed the area to avoid onlookers and cause any mishap as the fuel was spread on the road.

"The overnight rains in the city had wet the roads wet, which we suspect might be the initial cause of the container skidding," said police.

The cops had a tough time controlling the traffic on the busy stretch as it was a working day and the heavy overloaded truck was difficult to be moved.
"Only after some time, the road was cleaned," said cops.
