In a daring heist, four dacoits armed with country-made pistols and choppers looted a jewellery store in South Delhi's Malviya Nagar area on Thursday.
The entire robbery took place in a span of a few minutes, after which they fled on motorcycles with jewellery worth nearly Rs 60 lakh.
The entire incident was captured on CCTV cameras installed in nearby neighbouring shops.
The police have started investigation and assured traders in the area of arresting the accused.
According to a senior police official from South District, the four masked men barged into Jain Jewellery Corner in Malviya Nagar's M1 market. The men brandished pistols and choppers and began assaulting the owner Pramod Jain.
The accused then bound Jain and his employees and robbed the valuables, including gold and silver jewellery, and fled the spot on two motorcycles. Jain was soon able to free himself and rushed out to shout for help.
"I was scared for my life at that time. They assaulted me and fled with at least three kgs of jewellery. After freeing myself, I was able to call for help. By then, the group had left on their motorcycles," said Pramod Jain.
The police were informed about the incident, after which a team from Malviya Nagar police station was sent to the spot.
An FIR has been registered at the police station under section 392/34 of the Indian Penal Code.
Traders in the area expressed their anger at the alleged lack of security in the area.
The policemen present at the spot pacified the traders and assured them of swift action.
In the CCTV footage, five men have been spotted.
However, in Jain's official complaint only four men have been mentioned. Jain also gave a list of items stolen from the store.
The police team investigating the case has said they are now looking into the escape routes which may have been used by the accused to flee the spot. The team will also make a list of local criminals who may be involved in the heist.
