Elderly couple in Kalkaji looted of valuables worth Rs 50 lakh

In a robbery reported in Kalkaji, an elderly couple was robbed on gunpoint by three to four assailants who entered their residence around 8 pm on Tuesday.

Though police have gathered some clues from the spot, they are yet to identify the robbers.

The victims also alleged that they were beaten up by the robbers, who also had sharp weapons. Police are now collecting CCTV footage from nearby places. According to police, the armed men entered the residence of Naseeb Chandra Agrawal (65) in South East Delhi's Nehru Enclave in Kalkaji, when his wife Usha and domestic help Nitish were alone.

The robbers broke into the first floor house, bound Usha and Nitish by their hands and legs and locked them in the bathroom.

As soon as Naseeb Chandra returned home, he too was overpowered by the robbers who made awy with valuables worth around Rs 50 lakh. Aggarwal runs a garment shop below his house.

"The children of the elderly couple were in London when the incident occurred. The couple claimed that cash around Rs 10 lakh and jewellery worth Rs 40 lakh has been looted by the criminals," said a senior police officer.
"Our teams are working on the case, but we suspect the hand of an insider in the incident. We have registered a case of robbery," said Romil Baniya, DCP South East. Police are rounding up known criminals in the area and also questioning people who are close to the family.
