Vector-borne diseases:104 vehicles to spread awareness

The South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) has intensified its campaign against vector-borne diseases in all localities coming under its jurisdiction. A fleet of 104 three wheelers to disseminate recorded an audio message and a song apart from the display of messages on flex boards attached to the three wheelers was flagged off on Thursday in Civic Center.

Deputy Mayor Kailash Sankla said that as many as 104 three wheelers will cover all localities of SDMC and will be able to generate effective awareness in the citizens to forcefully mitigate the effect of vector-borne diseases.

Each three wheelers will roam in each ward in various localities and narrow lanes every day from 09 am to 05 pm with an aim to make the citizens ready to take all precautionary measures to curb an outbreak of the diseases of Dengue and Chikungunya.

"With the move, it will be possible to reach every citizen as three wheelers can enter all the congested colonies and markets. The message through a recorded song- Ai Bhai Zara Dekh Ke Chalo- and written messages on the flex are effective. The new initiative is to supplement earlier deployment of 300 auto tippers for bringing awareness. The citizens inspired by SDMCs campaign have been pulling up their socks to fight the menace of Dengue and Chikungunya," he said.

Additional Commissioner Ram Mohan Singh said that the dengue transmission occurs during the rainy season when the temperature and humidity are highly favourable to build-up high mosquito density.
Awareness among the public is being created by the distribution of handbills, pasting of stickers and much more such innovative initiatives.
