Traders in Gurugram continue to be sitting ducks for robbers

The security of traders, especially in the outskirts of Gurugram, is proving to be a major challenge for the city police.

On Tuesday evening, there were two burglary incidents on the traders, one in Sohna and other in Farrukhnagar. In Sohna, the burglars robbed a wheat trader while in Farrukhnagar the burglars targeted a jeweller. The miscreants were successful in robbing assets amounting in lakhs of rupees in both the cases.

In the Farrukhnagar heist, the burglars shot the jeweller at a point blank range.

Having sustained injuries on the head, the jeweller identified as Birbal Jain is in serious condition and is being treated in a private hospital. Three burglars are suspected to be involved in this daring criminal act. In both the cases, the accused are at large.

These incidents highlight the rising number of criminal activities where traders in and Gurugram are being targeted.

Earlier too, there have been numerous incidents where traders have been shot at by the burglars. In February a group of burglars robbed around eleven shops in the Badshahpur area by breaking down their shutters.

Complaining about law and order, traders have now been stating that not only thefts but now they are being victimised with extortion, kidnapping, and even murder. Most of the traders in the outskirts have also led demonstrations regarding the weak law and order situation in the outskirts. The traders have been demanding that is a need for more police vigilance in the outskirts of the city like Sohna, Pataudi and Badshahpur where the rates of crime against the traders are rising rapidly.

"There is no doubt that a trader in the city does not feel safe and secure in the city. Today he can be easily targeted and harmed by the gangsters. Today the gangsters are emboldened that they can carry out a heist or murder in the daylight and get away with it. The Police must increase its presence in the outer areas of Gurugram," said Pawan Bansal who runs a garment shop in Sadar Bazaar Gurugram.
