'I killed my father for property,' confessed son

Accused in the murder case of his father Ishwar Tyagi, son Anuj Tyagi alias Dabbu confessed that he was reeling under the financial burden and killed his father in order to get his share in the family's property as his four brothers and parents did not provide him with enough money, said police.

65-year-old Sanjeev Tyagi, was allegedly shot dead by his son, Dabbu at his Ghaziabad residence on May 11.

Soon after the incident, Dabbu was absconding and police were conducting raids to nab him.

On Saturday, the accused, Dabbu, the son of the IPS officer was arrested by the Ghaziabad Police from Mehruali village. He has been absconding since the murder.

The victim was the father of an IPS officer, Sanjeev Tyagi. Dabbu is the fourth of Ishwar's five sons.

"A FIR under Section 302 of IPC was registered at Kavinagar police station against the deceased's youngest son Dabbu who shot the deceased at about 6:45 am.

"Dabbu is suffering from schizophrenia and is undergoing treatment at Vimhans Hospital in Delhi for the same. Three teams were formed to nab the accused. All angles are being explored," said Akash Tomar, superintendent of police, Ghaziabad.

According to the police, Dabbu's friend Rajat Choudhary alias Jhonny allegedly advised him to eliminate his father and during the property distribution, he would get his share.

It was also revealed that Jhonny had helped him to purchase a 30 bore pistol for Rs 3.5 lakh, which he used in the murder. Police have also recovered the same gun from Dabbu and confirmed that Jhonny helped Dabbu with the murder plot.

"Johnny is at large and will be tried for criminal conspiracy.

We are investigating the case to ascertain his exact role in the case" said a senior police official.
