A fireman was injured after a concrete block fell on him while he was fighting a blaze in a factory in South East Delhi's Okhla on Saturday morning.
A passerby, who lives near the ready-made garments factory, placed a call to the police about the fire around 7.30 am on Sunday. Soon, a dozen fire tenders reached the spot and tried to douse the flames. However, in the operation, one fireman was injured and was admitted to the hospital.
The injured fireman, Ram Ratan, is posted at the Sarita Vihar fire station and is currently undergoing treatment at the AIIMS Trauma Centre, said an official from the Delhi Fire Services. His condition is reported to be stable.
"I was passing by as I saw big flames coming out of the factory. The fire was huge and it engulfed almost all the factory within some time. I immediately informed police and soon the fire tenders, police and the ambulance reached the spot," said the eyewitness, who wished not to be identified.
It took several hours for the fire tenders to douse the flames and the cooling operation continued till Saturday evening. No casualty was reported in the fire incident.
In a previous incident, a fireman was killed and two of his colleagues were injured when a cylinder exploded while they were trying to douse a fire in an electric heater factory in Delhi's Anand Parbat industrial area on May 31.
