Wards of cops to be trained for Olympics 2020

Selected kids of Delhi Police personnel will be imparted sports training by the best officers of the police force in order to prepare them for the upcoming 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. The initiative has taken up by Delhi Police to motivate and train children in five different sports.

"The children are being given training in five categories, namely shooting, wrestling, athletics, badminton and football. The best in each category will be then prepared for Olympics by Delhi Police. The final selection will be done only after competition on June 11." said Madhur Verma, PRO, Delhi Police.

To make sure the children are fit both mentally and physically for a mega event like the Olympics, they will be undergoing rigorous training in not just the specific sport, but also to improve their mental toughness.

From a well-trained nutritionist who will take care of the diet of the young atheletes, to a physiotherapist to minimise injuries, the children will be given all necessary resources in line with international standards of sports and coaching.

The first phase of the programme began a few months ago, where around 538 children of police personnel were given trials. Out of these, 136 children were shortlisted.

After the children were screened, they underwent training in accordance with international rules and regulations. They have been encouraged to aspire for big goals and have a tough attitude in the sport.

The children who excelled in each of the above sports have been given training and final selections will be made on Sunday. The best in each category will then be given the final training. Currently, the children are being trained by Delhi Police coaches and athletes. The department is leaving no stone unturned to make sure the kids get achieve the best results.
