Dates for DU sports trials yet to be declared

Trial for admission under sports quota category at Delhi University will commence from the last week of June. However, dates of sports trials are yet to be finalised.

"With the University yet to put up the schedule on its website, and with just a few days left for the trials, this could put a lot of outstation aspirants in a spot due to the short notice. The University is also yet to decide on the dates for the extra-curricular activities' (ECA) trials," a source at the University said.

Meanwhile, the Sports Committee of the University has made several changes to make the admission simpler through sports quota.

This time, students will need to give just one best certificate for their application.

According to an official, during the trial, the performance of a player will be more important than the certificate.

As per the new rules, the certificate of the students will carry 40 per cent weightage, while their trial will be given 60 per cent weightage.

Earlier, the certificates and trials were both given equal importance.

This academic session, the University has received the highest number of applications for football (1,102), which is next only to basketball. Surprisingly, applications for cricket come at the fifth spot.

Last year, the number of student applications received, with football as the sport of choice, was 1,297.

Sports and ECA categories comprise 5 per cent of supernumerary seats at DU. This year, the University has decided to go for centralised, game-wise trials.

St Stephen's College, however, will hold the sports trials from June 18-25.

While the University wanted the College to be a part of the centralised trial process, authorities at the College will go ahead with their own schedule.

The University, however, will send its observer for the trials.

St Stephen's, being a minority institution, used to have its own admission process including the sports trials.

This year, DU has made it mandatory for all applicants to Stephen's to first register via the centralised online form of the University.
