Men betting on India- Lanka match held

While the whole nation was glued to their TV screens watching the India-Sri Lanka match, a group of bookies had their eyes fixed to the mobile handsets and TV screens for maintaining records of gambling they had indulged in along with several others on phone.

The Special Staff North West District busted a racket of digital gambling on Champions Trophy cricket match between India and Sri Lanka, being played at Oval, England.

This racket was being operated from a rented accommodation in the jurisdiction of Keshav Puram, New Delhi. Four bookies found gambling at the spot were nabbed and 39 mobile phones, one television set, 10 registers containing details of the bets played by various persons on the match, four laptops having betting application and Rs 40,000 cash were seized from the spot.

A case under Gambling Act was registered at PS Keshav Puram, New Delhi on Friday.

The teams had received a secret input that a betting syndicate is being run at a rented flat in Keshav Puram after which it was raided at around 8 pm on June 8. The unexpected guests at the gambling premises then picked up four men involved in the betting.

"All the accused persons were subjected to intensive interrogation during which they disclosed that they stepped into gambling in order to earn quick and easy money. They all further stated that they have been indulging in this crime from last three to four years and used to keep on changing their static location so that they could not be identified or caught," said Milind Dumbere DCP North West.

They were cautious enough not to operate from a static location, hence they remained out of reach. Lots of mobile phones and four laptops having iBook betting assistant application found running has been recovered.

All the arrested accused belongs to middle-class families and are said to be married. The cops are now zeroing in on people whom they were in touch with. Their phone records are being scanned to get more information on the betting nexus these men were running. All the arrested persons Lalit Kumar, Vijay Kumar, Durga Prasad and Raju Gupta are from Delhi.
