Chota Shakeel's aide arrested in Delhi

Chhota Shakeel's aide Junaid Chowdhry was arrested by the Special Cell of Delhi Police on Thursday night. As per the reports, the arrest has been made in East Delhi.

He is currently being interrogated by the team.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) PS Kushwah said Junaid Chowdhry was nabbed on the intervening night of 7 and 8 June from Wazirabad road North-east Delhi.

Though the DCP refused to divulge details of the target, a senior police officer, on the condition of anonymity, said Chowdhry was planning to target the Pakistan-born Canadian writer Tarek Fatah, known for his controversial remarks.

Even though Fatah was not in Delhi, the aide was here to carry out a recce, he said.

Chowdhary was earlier arrested in June, last year, along with three others with arms and hawala money that was reported, sent by Shakeel. Noteworthy, they were planning to kill a Hindu Sabha chief Swami Chakrapani at that time. After the arrest, Chowdhry remained in jail for three-four months and was later released on bail.

After being released on bail, he was again sent to Tihar jail after his bail was cancelled.

Later, he was again released on bail and once more got in touch with Shakeel and it was then when he yet again started carrying out the gangster's Delhi-based activities.

The cops are now trying to probe if he had any other gang members in touch and how was he has been receiving commands from his handlers.

The cops are also interrogating him on his targets list. Meanwhile, he is kept in high security.
