Power cuts coupled with low voltage irks Ggn denizens

Frustrated with the power cuts, a retired judge shot at the electricity board employees in Civil Lines area on Wednesday.

When the city is recording over 45 degrees, it is not only the increased power cuts but also low voltage supply that is irking the citizens of the Millennium City.

The transformers of the city electricity board are unable to bear heavy electricity overload, so most areas are receiving a voltage supply of 150-180 volts, said officials.

The same reason has been cited for frequent and long power cuts.

A large number of complaints is being registered at the electricity board by residents over their electronic devices like the air conditioner and fridges not being functional. Also, complaints of fluctuations in electric current resulting in damage of devices have been reported.

The impact of low voltage is mainly felt in DLF, Sushant Lok and condominium societies like Golf Course road owing to higher power consumption in these areas. While the officials at Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) state that steps are being made to improve the situation, the residents do not seem to be impressed of such claims.

While the DHBVN has set a target of 300 lakh units of consumption of power units in Gurugram this summer, the city has already surpassed it with the power consumption 450 lakh units. "This is the highest ever power consumption registered," said DHBVN officials.

The DHBVN has yet again failed to meet the power demand and many areas are reeling under power cuts of more than 6-8 hours coupled low voltage.
