Power demand in Delhi reaches all-time high

Delhi's power demand on Monday afternoon soared to an all-time high of 6,361 MW, a steep increase of 10 per cent over Sunday.

The record for Delhi's peak power demand stood at 6,261 MW in June last year.

With maximum temperature touching 45 degrees Celsius on Monday, the peak power demand was recorded at 6,361 MW at 3.06 pm, according to data from the State Load Dispatch Centre.
On Sunday, the maximum load was recorded at 5,775 MW.

Delhi's peak power demand crossed the 6,000 MW mark for the first time in May last year before breaching the 6,200 mark in June.

"Tata Power Delhi Distribution (TPDDL) successfully met the record peak power demand of 1,830 MW without any network constraint and power outage as Delhi touched a record high of 6,361 MW, highest for this year," said Spokesperson of TPDDL.
Even as power cuts were observed in different parts of the city, officials of the government said the power infrastructure was prepared to withstand load up to
6,600 MW.
