JNU hosteliers celebrate India's win by thrashing Iranian student

Following the victory of India in the Champions Trophy, a group of 10 students in the Jawaharlal Nehru University while celebrating it not only created a ruckus but also roughed up an Iranian student and a guard.
The victim has filed a complaint with the proctor.

The Iranian national has filed complaints with the police as well as university administration against the 10 students, naming two of them, one Vinay and ABVP member Saurabh Sharma.
He has stated in his complaint that on Sunday night, two students had manhandled him and a security guard.

The group was bursting fire crackers after India won the match against Pakistan in the ICC Champions Trophy, said the student.

Following the celebration, the students had asked him to leave.

"They hit me. When my hostel roommates tried to pacify the boys, they were also beaten up," added the student.
The student has stated that all the accused were in an inebriated state.

Earlier, he had faced similar issues but no action has been taken.

"I request you to take proper action against them or else I would have to take the legal recourse. I am an International student," said the complainant.

The issue took an ugly turn when some students started bursting crackers in the hostel gallery.

JNUSU President Mohit Pandey also wrote a letter to the authorities demanding an action.

The security guard has also filed a complaint alleging Sharma and other ABVP members assaulted a foreign national.

When Millennium Post contacted the student, he said that it was a scuffle and now things have been sorted out.

"It was a mere altercation. The issue has been resolved by the warden of the hostel," said a university official.

The Additional DCP South Chinmoy Biswal said that they would be investigating the matter but till now no FIR has been registered.

But, according to cop sources, the guard will be questioned and legal action might be initiated after he records his statement.
